Fox News reporter stunned that Trump encouraged troops to shoot migrants: ‘That would be disastrous in so many ways’

President Donald Trump likened rocks potentially wielded by migrants seeking shelter at the US border to “rifles” Thursday. The statement raised concerns that Trump was facilitating a justification for state violence against unarmed refugees.

Fox News tried to grapple with the significance of Trump’s statements Friday.

“I just want the facts,” said Fox News host Harris Faulkner.

Chief White House Correspondent John Roberts laid out Trump’s strategy for deterring refugees, before addressing the President’s rifle comments.

“If the US military starting shooting people that were throwing rocks? That would be disastrous in so many ways,” Roberts said.

“It’s always going to get your critics and your opponents talking,” Faulkner replied.

Roberts reiterated the seriousness of the President’s rhetoric.

“Again, using lethal force in a case of people crossing the border illegally …. I don’t want to say that gets us back to Kent State but I think a lot of people would see it in similar fashion.”

Shooter is skeptical of Fox News and distrusts just about everything MSNBC broadcasts. CNN, CBS, NBC, and ABC for the most part are fact reporters, but they slant the news to fit their agenda and rarely give both sides of the story.
Shooter ignores anything from rawstory, politico and Slate.
Most pundits, regardless of political leaning, can safely be ignored.
Shooter prefers sources that have little or no agenda. That would be sources like bls.gov and ssa.gov.

Exclusive: Trump Administration Told ‘Only Small Percentage’ of Migrant Caravan Will Reach U.S. Border Before Massive Troop Deployment

The Trump administration was informed that “only a small percentage” of Central American migrants traveling with several “caravans” headed toward the U.S. will likely make it to the border. The information was received before the administration moved ahead with plans to deploy more than 5,200 troops to the border, according to operational documents obtained by Newsweek.

The Pentagon announced Monday that it would send around 5,200 troops to the border ahead of the arrival of as many as four migrant caravans making their way to the U.S.-Mexico border. But a Defense Department official with knowledge of the deployment told Newsweek that “the units deployed right now are of actual strength between 5,000 and 7,000. With another 7,000 on standby, who can deploy with 24-hour notice.”

Operational documents sent to Newsweek by a Pentagon official outlining the deployment, dubbed Operation Faithful Patriot, reveal that the government continued its plans to send troops to the border despite anticipating that “based on historic trends...only a small percentage of migrants will likely reach the border.”

The estimates revealed in the documents, marked as “UNCLASSIFIED//FOUO//LES” (meaning the documents are for official use only and are law enforcement sensitive), stand in stark contrast to President Donald Trump’s claims of an “invasion” at the U.S. border.

In an interview with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Monday, *Trump appeared to dismiss reports on the caravans’ dwindling numbers, asserting that he was good at determining crowd sizes and knew there were “thousands and thousands” of people traveling with the caravans, based on coverage he had seen of migrants crossing a bridge into Mexico.

“That’s called an invasion of our country,” Trump said.

It is not clear whether Trump saw the specific documents contained in the presentation, although a Pentagon official said it was likely that the president had been briefed on the matter.

U.S. officials estimated that as many as 7,000 Central Americans were traveling with the caravans, with roughly 60 percent of the group made up of Hondurans, in addition to smaller numbers of people from Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua, based on an October 25 assessment. The intelligence is included in documents that were prepared by the Joint Force Land Component Commander Threat Working Group and used in a PowerPoint presentation on Operation Faithful Patriot on Saturday.

But, of the thousands of people estimated to have been traveling with the caravan at the time, officials believed that only 20 percent would likely make it to the U.S. border, based on historical analysis.

To put this into perspective, if the U.S. had estimated that around 7,000 migrants were traveling toward the border with the caravan as of October 25, then it would have also determined that fewer than 1,500 would be likely to make it to the country’s ports of entry. The intelligence assessment was still being briefed to commanders as of October 27, according to the documents.

Since then, the numbers of Central Americans traveling with the caravans appear to have dwindled, with the first caravan, which departed from San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on October 13, shrinking from around 7,500 people to about 3,500 as of Monday, according to the Associated Press.

In addition to the first caravan, at least two smaller convoys departing from Honduras and El Salvador have also launched journeys to the U.S. border this month. However, the operational documents viewed by Newsweek assert that there are “four large migrant caravans” making their way toward the border.

It is unclear at this time what members of the U.S. intelligence community are observing to determine a fourth migrant caravan.

Trump has rejected claims from critics that his administration’s decision to deploy troops to the border was part of a bid to stoke immigration fears ahead of the November 6 midterm elections.

*“This has nothing to do with elections,” Trump said. “I’ve been saying this long before election. I’ve been saying this before I ever thought of running for office. We have to have strong borders. If we don’t have strong borders, we don’t have a country.”

Still, in the days before the quickly approaching November midterm elections, the president has ramped up the rhetoric on his administration’s immigration crackdown.

On Tuesday, the president revealed plans to sign an executive order that would remove the right to citizenship for babies of non-U.S. citizens and undocumented immigrants born on U.S. soil.

Declaring his intentions in an interview with Axios slated to air on HBO on Sunday, Trump said he had already consulted White House counsel on the decision, adding that efforts to end birthright citizenship were already underway.

If the president does sign such an executive order, it would be his administration’s most dramatic effort yet in its hard-line campaign to crack down on immigration in the U.S.

Former generals who no longer need to respond to the wishes and whims of the commander in chief are becoming increasingly vocal about how President Donald Trump is using the U.S. military as props before the midterms elections, with one calling the massive deployment of personnel to the southern border a “political stunt.”

According to the former military men, some of whom spoke with the Washington Post, the president’s plan to send as many as 15,000 troops to the southern border to guard against a caravan made up of immigrants almost a 1,000 miles away is, in a word: “wasteful.”

According to retired Lt. Gen. David Barno, who commanded U.S. forces in Afghanistan, Trump’s decision places military forces “in a highly politicized environment regarding immigration.”

Retired Gen. Martin Dempsey, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, agreed by calling the border operation a “wasteful deployment of over-stretched Soldiers and Marines.”

Speaking with the Post, former general and Secretary of State Colin Powell added his two cents, stating, “I see no threat requiring this kind of deployment.”

Others were not so diplomatic.

Retired Lt. Gen. Jim Dubik bluntly called Trump’s decision wrong by pointing out, “A sizable portion of those coming are women and children.”

“The real issue is whether the military is being used for partisan political purposes,” explained Dubik. “If that’s the case, then I think such a use represents not just a wasteful deployment but a dangerous one. It’s dangerous because it will politicize the use of force in ways a democracy should avoid.”

As the Post notes, *“More than any other president in recent decades, Trump has spoken of the military as if it were part of his political base, rather than an apolitical defender of the nation. He placed several retired generals in his cabinet. In speeches before military audiences, at which presidents usually steer clear of politics and focus on foreign policy or praise troops for their sacrifice, Trump has bragged to the troops about the size of his electoral win.”

Writing at Task and Purpose, retired Col. Paul Yingling, who commanded U.S. troops in Iraq, cut right to the chase.

“This operation is a political stunt,” he wrote.

Trump voters: Two years in, here’s an updated list of Trump’s 30 biggest broken promises.

1. He told you he’d cut your taxes, and that the super-rich like him would pay more. You bought it. But his 2017 tax law has done the opposite. By 2027, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, the richest 1 percent will have received 83 percent of the tax cut and the richest 0.1 percent, 60 percent of it. But more than half of all Americans — 53 percent — will pay more in taxes. As Trump told his wealthy friends at Mar-a-Lago just days after the tax bill became law, “You all just got a lot richer.”

But he’s brought into his administration more billionaires, CEOs, and Wall Street moguls than in any administration in history, to make laws that will enrich their businesses, and he’s filled departments and agencies with former lobbyists, lawyers and consultants who are crafting new policies for the same industries they recently worked for.

11. He promised to re-institute a five-year ban on all executive branch officials lobbying the government for five years after they leave government.” You bought it. But the five-year ban he signed applies only to lobbying one’s former agency, not the government as a whole, and it doesn’t stop former officials from becoming lobbyists.

12. He said he’d use his business experience to whip the White House into shape. You bought it. But he has created the most dysfunctional, back-stabbing White House in modern history, and has already fired and replaced so many assistants that people there barely know who’s in charge of what.

13. He told you he’d “bring down drug prices” by negotiating “like crazy” with drug companies. You bought it. But he hasn’t.

$145M Texas border wall project awarded, Customs and Border Protection says

A $145 million construction project was awarded Wednesday to build roughly six miles of border wall in Texas, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on Friday.

The agency, in conjunction with the Army Corps of Engineers, gave the multimillion-dollar job in the Border Patrol’s Rio Grande Valley Sector to SLSCO.

Among the anticipated work is the building and set up “of tactical infrastructure,” which includes “a reinforced concrete levee wall to the height of the existing levee, 18 feet tall steel bollards installed on top of the concrete wall, and vegetation removal along a 150 foot enforcement zone throughout the approximately six miles of levee wall system,” the news release said.

The area will also be equipped with detection technology and video surveillance, the agency said.

The Rio Grande Valley Sector has “high illegal cross border activity,” according to CBP.

“Once constructed, this levee wall system will serve as a persistent impediment to transnational criminal organizations, while still allowing river access for property owners, other federal/state/local officials, local emergency responders, and USBP,” the agency said.

That seems a strange statement to make.
Considering the imploded economy he inherited in the first term, and the absolutely non-cooperative house and senate that Obama had to deal with in the second term, why would you say that comparing the 20 months immediately preceding Trump’s term is “a lie”?

The general is apparently making the point that Obama did better with job growth than Trump. The problem is, Obama had 8 years to drive the economy and create jobs, Trump has had less than 20 months.
If one looks at job creation in Obama's first 20 months (when, by the way, he controlled both houses of Congress) and Trumps first 20 months one can see immediately why the General didn't do an "apples to apples" comparison.

Now, despicables love to make the point that Obama inherited a fucked up economy, which is true. He did. But it took over 2 years for Obama's "job growth program" to have an effect, even after all his spending.

So all the General has done is prove the old adage;
Figures never lie, but liars figure.
